CHURCH OF CRAFT - NOV. 12, 2006
Don't let the word "Church" scare you. It's a fun collective of crafters that have a lot of fun. You never know what juicy Portland tidbit will be revealed!
Come on down to Rimsky's Coffeehouse and meet new people (just like you) and learn a craft while you're at it.
The Portland, Oregon flock meets one Sunday each month.
We meet from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

It looks like a red house, right next to Plaid.
At any meeting, you’ll find knitters and crocheters, beaders, wire-workers, stitchers, tiki-carvers, scrapbookers, builders of model rockets, and more. We also take turns hosting craft classes at each meeting. Please email sisterdg@churchofcraft.org if you’d like to teach a class. Feel free to bring any craft supplies you like, and an extension cord if you’ll need one. Coffee and Rimsky’s spectacular desserts are available. Hope to meet you soon!

BUCKMAN ART SHOW & SELL - CALL TO ARTISTS & CRAFTERS (BY NOV. 17th)
CALL TO ARTISTS & CRAFTERS...
The Buckman Art Show & Sell is an annual event that benefits Buckman Elementary School - the arts magnet school within Portland Public Schools. Buckman is an amazing school - I know because my son Levi goes there! (You may know Levi as the "Aliens with Afros" kid who sells his paintings at Crafty Wonderland). Participating artists get 70% of their profits while 30% goes to the school. There is one main checkout so you don't need to be at the sale the entire time, you just need to make sure all of your items are clearly priced with your artist number.
It's a really fun and easy sale and has a great turnout. I highly recommend it.If you are interested, you can get an application online at: www.buckmanelementary.org/artsale or pick one up at the Buckman office at: 320 SE 16th Ave. in Portland
The application deadline is November 17th

SCRAP's Holiday Bazaar and Bakesale is a Village-style Marketplace of ReUse Art and Craft where normally unwanted materials magically materialize into cool, creative gifts for everyone. Plus, a traditional Bake Sale with homemade goods to tempt the tummy. Last year over 200 people stopped by throughout the day.

Details:
- Artwork must incorporate a minimum of 75% reused materials or found objects.
- Wares will be reviewed by SCRAP staff before a space is reserved.
- Our goal is to have a diverse mix of items available for sale
- Only 15 spaces are available.
- Vendor fee is $25 plus a plate of baked goods per 30" x 30" space.
- Vendors must arrange staffing of their own space for the entire event (11am - 6pm)
- Items for sale should range from $5 to $50 to ensure public access to affordable art.
Final selection will be made on or before November 10th.
- Name
- Phone number
- Description of your work, including estimated reused content and price range.
- Type of display items used and if you have any special space requirements (ie. wall space). (Note that excess space is limited. Most displays will be limited to the top of the table and cannot block the flow of customers.)
- Please attach 2 or 3 photos of your work. If you do not have access to a digital camera, bring your items into scrap and we can assist you.

Andi Zeisler - Lecture - Nov 6, 2006
Pacific Northwest College of Art and Contemporary Crafts Museum & Gallery co-present a lecture by Andi Zeisler.
November 6, 2006 at 7 pm.
Her lecture is on the evolution of craft beyond its many stereotypical iterations - "women's work" - and beyond its often disdainful reputation in the high-art world. Zeisler will touch on the meta aspects ofcontemporary craft - namely, the fact that many crafts, particularly those made by women, serve to comment on the domestic realms of the past. She will also reflect on how the new "hipness" of craft is represented in today's popular culture.
Zeisler is the co-founder and editorial/creative director of Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture, which began in 1996 as an all-volunteer 'zine with a circulation of 300 and is now an internationally distributed quarterly magazine. A longtime freelance writer, her work has appeared in numerous periodicals and newspapers, including Ms., Mother Jones, Utne, Bust, San Francisco Chronicle, Women's Review of Books, and Hues.
Before Bitch became her full-time job, Andi worked as a textile designer, and these days satisfies her fabric-related craft urges by embroidering portraits of people and dogs. She graduated from The Colorado College in 1994 with a ba in Art. A New Yorker by birth and temperament, she currently lives in Oakland, California, but will be moving to Portland in 2007.

The work of twenty-two artists was juried in, including playful, organically inspired felt & silver jewelry by Sarah Fox; whimsical mixed media basketry by Danielle Bodine; elegant porcelain vessels by Rebekah Diamantopoulos, geometrically designed sterling and 18-karat gold jewelry by Ben Neubeuer; and mixed media narrative sculptures by Bunny with a Toolbelt. Also featured are resin lamps, embroidered bookmarks, silk and chenille scarves, felt hats, carved and painted wood toys, salt-fired and wood-fired porcelain, blown-glass tumblers, kaleidoscopes, and a large assortment of holiday cards and ornaments.

da Vinci Arts Fair - Dec. 8 &9, 2006
The second annual da Vinci Arts Fair scheduled for December 8th and 9th is a benefit for da Vinci Arts Middle School, a special focus public school.

The da Vinci Arts Fair, like the school it supports, celebrates the visual and performing arts. Fine art and crafts from local artists, students and staff transform the school’s gym into an arts marketplace while the school’s auditorium plays host to performances by students, alumni and professional performing artists.
Shoppers can choose from over 60 professional artists showing everything from paintings and prints to jewelry, ceramics, and textiles, then catch a musical or dance performance just around the corner. The da Vinci Arts Fair also features a snack bar and a place to make your own art, both a big hit with children visiting the arts fair. New this year is a raffle. To celebrate da Vinci Arts Middle School’s 10th anniversary, local artist Tom Cramer has created “Pointelist Mona Lisa”, a hand-carved and painted piece honoring Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous painting. The image of his work graces the posters and postcards promoting the da Vinci Arts Fair. The raffle will take place on December 9th, during the Arts Fair. Just one thousand raffle tickets will be availabe for $10 each.
